Integration and Welfare for Communities is running its International Driver Training program with a seed funding ought to decrease or end whenever the department of Highway Safety decides to. The program is projected to sustain with the fees and accredited financial support raised in order to survive from October 2008 on. International Driving Program has successfully impacted underserved communities and English as a second language populations residing in Omaha by educating and training them for safe driving and reduction of traffic injuries and fatalities. We planned serving 150 clients by the end of 2007 and we ended up with over 500 respondents to the program with 280 clients who completed the training. A social change has occurred in the targeted communities. Safe driver training became an affordable and popular option. Clients are referred by friends and family relatives. This driver training program is made available at refugees resettlement agencies, schools, work place and Churches. We need resources to maintain the training on these sites. Even with no aggressive advertising due to our limited budget and means, these populations remain aware of the safe driver training program designed to fit their needs. From affordability to availability of the driving program, we are causing a mind change for safety in our community.
